1st July: Blessing of the Fleet

 

22 July: Presentation Night

The Sailing Sections will be holding a presentation evening on the 22nd July. The theme is House of Cards

The Sailing Section Presentation night begins at 6pm with hot canapés,  with a buffet dinner commencing at 7pm in the Club restaurant. Tickets are $40 per person, it is only open to sailing members and their partners. There will be tables of 10, the members are able to nominate their own table

Bookings can be made at reception, please note payment is required when booking.

June 2017

17th June PEARL CHALLENGE RE RUN

The Moreton Bay Boat Club invites eligible yachts to take part in the scheduled annual inter-club “PEARL CHALLENGE RE RUN”.

 

The Pearl Challenge is aimed at sports and trailable yachts able to safely complete an “out and back” 40 nautical mile course within the Moreton Bay ‘partially smooth’ (sheltered) waters.

 

It will also include a separate miscellaneous division for keelboats (mixed fleet) and multihull participants by way of additional divisions and prizes.

4th June

MBBCSS extends an invitation to owners and skippers of eligible  yachts to compete in the re-run of the annual Cowan Marathon scheduled to commence at 10am on Sunday 4th June 2017.

The event will include two (2) Divisions with the 2nd Division sailing a shorter course catering for yachts sailing without ‘extras’. The start time for the two Divisions will be separated by 15 minutes.

The Division 1 event has no restriction on the use of extras.

The Division 2 event has all ‘extras’ prohibited

7th May:

The MBBC extends an invitation to owners and skippers of eligible boats to compete in the penultimate 2016-2017 season pennant race scheduled to commence at 11am on Sunday 7th May 2017.

Eligible boats must enter by completing the entry form included with the NoR and forwarding the completed form to the MBBC Sports Coordinator: sports@mbbc.org.au

24th April:

There will be a Sailing Sections Meeting in the restaurant at the Club on Monday 24 April. All sailors are encouraged to attend,  the restaurant will be booked from 6.30pm so please feel free to come and take advantage of the Monday night schnitzels, 4 x chef selection of toppers (toppers vary weekly)before we begin the meeting at 7pm

The event will include a short passage race followed by a short course windward leeward race and finishing with a return to home short passage race.

There will be one Division with total combined courses length approximately 15NM.

March 2017

26th March:

MBBC extends an invitation to owners and lady skippers of eligible yachts to compete in the 2017 LADY SKIPPER RACE and (circumstances permitting) Social BBQ. The event is scheduled to commence on Sunday 26th March at 10am.

SPECIAL RULE PERTAINING TO THIS RACE. – Each yacht must at all times be helmed by a lady skipper. Where only one female is aboard, a break of 5 minutes per hour may be taken.

The Moreton Bay Boat Club invites eligible sailing boats to take part in its annual inter-club “FAIRWAY CHALLENGE”.

The Fairway Challenge is aimed at ocean capable sailing boats able to safely complete an “out and back” 80 nautical mile course from the Redcliffe Peninsula to the Moreton Bay entrance NW Fairway mark to the east of Caloundra.

The Fairway Challenge will cater for multihull participants by way of a separate division.

The event is scheduled for the weekend of 25th and 26th February 2017 so as to contribute as a Moreton Bay exit practiced for the 2017 QCYC Brisbane to Gladstone event.

The start of the Fairway Challenge will be at 11:00am on Saturday 25th February 2017. The conditional time limit for the event shall be 7:00am on Sunday 26th February 2017.

Maritime Safety Queensland requirements mandate a briefing for all competitors. That briefing will be held at the Moreton Bay Boat Club, Bird O’Passage Parade, Scarborough on Wednesday 22nd February 2017 commencing at 7.30pm. At least one bone fide representative of each entered boat must attend that briefing.

Complementary berths and marina facilities will be available to all relevant participants from the preceding Friday (24/02/17) through to midday on the Sunday (26/02/17). Berthing on the Friday night will be limited therefore prior arrangement via the MBBC is essential.

January 2017

December 2016

18th December:

The MBBC extends an invitation to owners and skippers of eligible boats to compete in the 2016 Xmas Challenge scheduled to commence at 11:00 am on 18th December 2016.

The event will comprise 2 race Division with the 2nd division catering for lower handicap and/or cruising boats.

This event concludes with an ‘end of year’ function on the MBBC deck area. The function is open to all MBBC Sailing Section members, family and guests.  An entry fee of $10 applies to cover catering and prizes ( further instructions regarding payment will be issued).

The NOR has been amended with the changes identified by yellow highlight in the attached Notice of Race Revision 1.

MBBC extends an invitation to owners and skippers of eligible yachts to compete in the Tony Caulfield remembrance Mud Island Marathon scheduled to commence at 10:00am on 27th November 2016.

30th: Discover Sailing Day

The Moreton Bay Boat Club will hold its annual Discover Sailing Day on the 30th October 2016 and will run from 10am – 2pm.

Discover Sailing Day is a FREE day for adults, juniors and families to come and try sailing! We have something for everyone large yachts and small dinghies! It is open to children aged 2 and over.

It is a great day with kids entertainment such as jumping castles, face painters and more.

A sausage sizzle will be held with a gold coin donation,  with all money raised going to the Junior Sailing section.

17th: QCYC Winter series 7 – Otter Rock

The QCYC has extended an invitation to owners and skippers of eligible yachts to compete in the annual Otter Rock Plate scheduled to commence at 11am on Sunday 17th July 2016. This special event is open to all eligible MBBC yachts. The race is an inter-club challenge event with the winning club being decided on a team performance basis.

The MBBC will be holding a concurrent event. The QCYC event finish is at Otter Rock. MBBC yachts will complete that event then continue racing to finish the MBBC event at the Scarborough Harbour entrance.

Preso Night

31st: Humpybong Winterbash Marathon

A race around the marks; sail the way they did in the old days; lengthy, epic, grueling, challenging, taking the wind and the sea  the way it comes rather than moving the course to suit. A 5-6 hour marathon using fixed features in Moreton Bay starting and ending at the Woody Point Jetty .

The event is programmed for the weekend 30-31 July and a decision will be made in the week before as to which day it will be sailed based on the wind and weather forecast.

June

25th: Lachy’s Loop

QCYC has scheduled the annual “Lachy’s Loop” event for 11:00 am on Saturday 25th June 2016.  MBBC yachts are encouraged to join the event.  For MBBC yachts the course is:-

  • Start at the Reef Point Green 11:00 am AEST/GPS (the meridian through the beacon is the start line) ;
  • Pearl Channel red to starboard;
  • Brisbane Road isolated danger to starboard;
  • Shorncliffe yellow beacon to starboard;
  • Otter Rock green to port;
  • Garnet Rock green to port;
  • Finish with the Reef Point beacon to port (the ‘line of latitude’ through the beacon is the finish line).  Take your own finish time and report it to MBBC.

This is a genuine pursuit race where QCYC yachts starting off Shorncliffe attempt to catch MBBC yachts starting off Scarborough (and vice versa).  The event is in remembrance of Lachy Warlters.
