SAGS sailing

A fleet of 17 plus one visitor enjoyed great sailing conditions in 15 to 20 knots of SE breeze which was consistent for the whole race.

The early starters of Sea Sprite, Rooger, Volando, Double D and French Kiss lead the fleet around Reef Point with Carisma, Zingara, About Time, Trim and Grecher in pursuit. The later starters had a hard time catching with all boats enjoying the solid south easter.

It was a good reach down to Garnet Rock and the same for the return leg. The fun began at the Garnet Rock mark with at least five boats rounding in very close quarters. I (Grecher) thank Ono (French Kiss) for giving ample rounding room at the mark as I had Zingara right on my stern and another boat close to starboard.

At Reef Point after a good chase to it, Double D, Rooger and Grecher rounded all but together. The run home we (Grecher) passed both Rooger and Double D to take home the rum with a comfortable win. It’s been a long time since a cat was not on the podium but Rimfire came home quickly finishing in fourth.

It was a good sight looking back to Reef Point to see such a great fleet, and to have Page III flying a kite. We have a great sailing section and thanks to our club for its sponsorship of the SAGS races.  GRECHER
