Thanks to Bill from ABOUT TIME for this week’s SAGS report 27.10.18
Saturday was a beautiful day to be on the bay. (photo attached). There were 16 starters including two boats (Gitana & Jo De 7) establishing handicaps, Carisma with Ron sailing single handed, and Page III competing in the Kingfisher Series.
There was a 10-15 knot ESE breeze creating some interesting tactics on the leg to Reef Point, but in the end most boats held their starting positions as the bunch turned the corner.
Oscar filled in some time on the second leg by bringing all their sails up on deck for an airing then folding them up and putting them away again. Knee Deep led the fleet to Garnet Rock and most of the way back to Reef Point. About Time flew her screecher (the Beast) on the edge of it’s useful limits to make up a lot of ground on the third leg back to Reef Point passing Knee Deep at the mark.
After turning the Reef Point mark the fleet bunched up for a slow run home. Zingara brought out their spinnaker on the last leg and even managed to resist the urge to put it through the usual rinse and spin cycles. After much jostling on the way home French Kiss snuck into official third place (much to Onno’s disappointment as he thought he had scored the coveted 4th spot), with Silverado second, and About Time managing to hang on to collect the two 6 packs. Jo De 7 was actually in third place but couldn’t claim it as they are still establishing a handicap.
On a personal note I thought it was very gracious of everyone to put buckets out the back so About Time could win on my Birthday.
Many thanks to the MBBC for their generous sponsorship and to David Mason Cox for being master of ceremonies.
