SAGS sailing

With the wind prediction of South to South East at 15 to 20 knots it was decided to sail the safer course in Deception Bay.

Jupiter led the fleet followed by Amazing Grace, Asgard and Divine Madness. Basically a reach to DBay red, a reach to Caboolture river then a tack to the finish line. This suited Rimfire who relished the first two legs and made up a lot of ground to nearly catch the front runners, finishing in third. Meanwhile Ripple, Silverado, Double D, Carisma and French Kiss were having a good tussle in the middle of the fleet. Double D and French Kiss managed to pass Ripple on the reach to Cab river with Rimfire cleaning them all up and rounding first. Double D snuck in front of French Kiss then proceeded to pull away on the tack home finishing in 4th spot. Page 111, Seraya and Sentier all suffered from the late start and the smaller course and found it very difficult to make up the lost time of a later start. This meant basically watching the smaller boats disappearing into the distance.

Amazing Grace managed to hold off a fast finishing Asgard, taking out the 1st place. This was his first win of the SAGS current season and although getting slammed at the finish with a 25 knot gust and a Chinese gybe, recovered in time to win the rum. Asgard held onto 2nd from a fast finishing Rimfire in 3rd.

There was a bit of confusion from some about the lateral distance out from the finish marker and it is 100 metres. This is a judgement call and if in doubt either put into your chart plotter the coordinates for an imaginary mark 100 metres out or tack back in closer to the mark.

Results: 1st: Amazing Grace: 2nd: Asgard. 3rd: Rimfire. 4th: Double D
