WAGS sailing

Thanks to Allan from ASGARD for this week’s WAGS report. 06.06.18

Eight boats headed out for this week’s WAGS on the Garnet Rock course, in starting order Asgard, Oscar, Double D, Zingara, Rimfire, Jenesis (one up), Seraya and Sentier.

As promised by BOM there was a nice stiff SSE breeze, sufficient to pop the seam on the main on Benny’s Oscar before they got to Reef Point. Hey Benny, come back better than ever after the repairs.

First away Asgard managed to keep a steady 4.5 to 5 knots into the fairly heavy chop down to Garnet with sufficient lead to hold off the faster downwind finishers on the third leg, and a lovely broad reach to the finish, such nice sailing we debated whether to keep going.

Zingara steadily made up ground on Asgard and also enjoyed the conditions, so much so that they sailed further than required on the second leg, still making a creditable second but almost allowing Merv and the lads on Rimfire to take second instead of third.

Tony and crew on Sentier sailed a strategic race to sneak into 4th place just ahead of Seraya and the rest of the tightly bunched fleet.

Condolences to those who stayed home and mowed the lawn instead of enjoying a great afternoons sailing.
