WAGS sailing

This week’s WAGS report 19.12.18 from Peter of ZINGARA

The BOM predicted 10 to 15 knot easterly winds and got it pretty right for a pleasant change.

The course was Caboolture river, Godwin beach yellow mark and home. There were 12 boats enjoying a perfect day on the water including About Time, Catalina, Double D, Happy Daze, Nice Try, Oscar, Prophecy, Rimfire, Rooger, Sentier, Seraya and Zingara, involving 33 sailors.

Bob and Ben on Oscar were first around the first mark (Cab Yellow)  but lost the lead to Zingara working up to the D Bay red. About Time also passed Oscar on the run home. The final placings were: Zingara first, About Time second and Oscar third. Nice Try had a great  run home, second kite run for the day and deservedly collected the coveted 4th place.

Back at the clubhouse, Mr Dwyer credited his win to the fine foredeck work of arguably the finest octogenarian foredeck hand in the club, Vince Barker. His spinnaker washing and retrieval definitely have to be seen to be believed. Unfortunately Vince will not be able to race next Wednesday due to family commitments in Melbourne. Consequently the WAGS race has been postponed from the 26 December to the 2nd January.

While awaiting his return, there will be a gathering of the sailors from 10am to 2pm on Wednesday the 26th Jan to watch the start of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race. Friendly bar service and a sausage sizzle will be had by all.

Many thanks to our generous sponsor, David Mason-Cox from Sunshine Boat Sales.

The next WAGS race will be on the 2nd January. Start Times here: MBBC WAGS results from 19 Dec 2018
