Championship Race 3
This race was named in memory of Lachlan Walters who was a long-time servant of the Moreton Bay Boat Club until he succumbed to cancer. He had a son Adam who was also a long-time member of MBBC.
Lachy was a very jovial character full of life and charisma. He served the MBBC as a director for many years and also was seen as a great ambassador of the club building great relationships with other clubs around the bay. He was often seen around Queensland Cruising yacht Club, Wynnum Manly Yacht Club and Royal Queensland Yacht Club building relationships on behalf of MBBC and promoting sailing in the region. Lachy was a keen sailor and had a passion for sailing multihulls and from around 1995 onwards was often seen sailing with our current Commodore Nigel Bucknell in either his Farrier F31 Trimaran and later in Nigel’s Corsair 36 Trimaran. He had a need for speed.
This race gives us a unique opportunity to reflect on those who came before us the history of our great boat Club. These amazing contributions should not be forgotten. By holding this annual event Lachlan Walters will live on in our hearts for many years to come.
The race will commence from Moreton bay Boat Club, Scarborough leads and will initially run along the front of the peninsula from Reef Point down to Margate thence around the bay finishing back at Scarborough leads.
