WAGS sailing

The BOM predicted Easterly winds at 10 to 15 knots with 26 degrees temp……a lovely day for a sail.

Bill and Vince on Divine Madness and Gerry on Volando led the fleet off on a Port course to the D bay red.

The middle fleet including Ripple, Happy Daze, Zingara and Trim watched on with interest as Bill found a massive wind shift at the end of the first leg which required a substantial tack before being able to round the mark. The rest of the fleet observed this and made the required course adjustments.  Thanks Bill, much appreciated.

The late starters including Rimfire, Jenesis, Catalina, Seraya and Endorfin were again disappointed to breast the start line only find the front runners on the horizon again.

The first four boats away took out the first four positions.

Congratulations to Roger and the boys on Ripple who ended up having a comfortable win.

Second place went to Jerry on Volando sailing single handed, a great effort by the young fella.

Third place went to the ever consistent Happy Daze, well done Roger and Margy.

Bill and Vince took out the coveted fourth spot and will be hoping for a podium finish next Wednesday.

Hank on Seraya and John on Endorfin, did an extra leg by going around the Godwin beach mark and using their spinnakers. Hank finished in 6th position, pretty well mid fleet. This was an experimental trial to see if this could be an option in future races. Further feedback will be forthcoming.

All boats and crew safely home in plenty of time for Happy Hour refreshments.

Meanwhile, back at the clubhouse, Roger and Margy’s good luck continued. There were 2 draws done for the skippers and crew draw and they each won a bottle of wine.

Many thanks to David Mason-Cox from the Sunshine Boat Sales and the MBBC for their generous sponsorship.

NOTE: The WAGS start times will revert to Summer Time starts effective from the 4th October. All times have been put back 30 minutes.
